Coventry Hospital Hosts Marlowe for Special Innovation Day

On Monday 20 October, Coventry Hospital welcomed colleagues from Marlowe and Mitie for a special Innovation Day – a milestone moment that showcased how our newly expanded capabilities are already making a difference on the ground.

Following our recent acquisition of Marlowe Plc, the Innovation Day was a chance to explore how this strategic move is unlocking new opportunities in Facilities Compliance – from fire safety and security systems to environmental and water services.

The event was sparked by a visit from Mitie CEO Phil Bentley, who met with the Coventry team shortly after the acquisition. That visit led to a deeper conversation about the site’s needs and how Marlowe’s expertise could support them. The result? A collaborative Innovation Day that brought together operational teams, project leads and compliance specialists to identify practical solutions and future opportunities.

Compliance in Action: Water Remediation Project

One standout example of the new partnership between Marlowe and Coventry Hospital is the £140k water remediation project recently awarded to Marlowe. Following a comprehensive Legionella Risk Assessment, over 2,000 remedial actions were identified – with more expected as the full estate is assessed.

While Mitie’s contract team has the plumbing expertise to carry out the work, the scale and complexity of the task require dedicated project management. In a few weeks, Marlowe will step in to provide an experienced Remedials Team Supervisor, ensuring the client’s needs are met, compliance is improved, and the contract benefits from high-margin revenue and future upsell opportunities.

This is a great example of value-added compliance – delivering immediate results while laying the groundwork for long-term transformation.

Looking Ahead: Fire Alarm Tender & Future Works

The collaboration doesn’t stop there. Marlowe has also been invited to tender for a £6m fire alarm replacement scheme, expected to span up to four years. With Coventry currently operating under an Interim Service Agreement, these projects are vital in demonstrating our capability and commitment as we work towards securing an 18-year PFI contract with the Trust.

With annual subcontractor costs for PPMs at around £3.5m, there’s significant scope for Marlowe to support across multiple packages – helping us deliver safe, efficient, and compliant services across the estate.

Stuart Locking, Account Director for University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire said “The partnership between Mitie and Marlowe is already proving to be a game-changer. The Innovation Day at Coventry was a brilliant showcase of what we can achieve together – combining expertise, energy and a shared commitment to compliance excellence. We’re excited about the journey ahead and can’t wait to explore even more opportunities to deliver outstanding value for our clients.”

Coventry’s Innovation Day was a brilliant example of what’s possible when we bring together the best of both organisations. It’s just the beginning – and we’re excited to see what comes next!
