Celebrating Black History Month
October marks a significant occasion in the UK—Black History Month. A time for reflection, recognition, and celebration, this month honours the outstanding contributions of Black individuals and communities throughout history, both past and present. First celebrated in the UK in 1987, Black History Month serves as an important reminder of the role diversity and inclusion play in shaping our world.
At Marlowe Environmental Services, we’re proud to be part of this annual celebration, reflecting on the profound impact that Black history has had on our society. Throughout October, our offices have been buzzing with activities aimed at celebrating the achievements and culture of the Black community.
Our Commitment to Celebrating Black History Month 2024
As part of our efforts to embrace diversity and inclusion, we’ve organised several engaging activities across our five offices. Here’s a look at how we’re celebrating:
Email Signatures & Teams Backgrounds
To show our support for Black History Month, our employees are using specially designed email signatures and Teams backgrounds. This small gesture helps raise awareness and promotes ongoing discussions around diversity in our workplace.
Decorated Offices
Our offices have been transformed with vibrant displays showcasing important milestones in Black history. These decorations serve as a visual reminder of the achievements of Black individuals and communities, sparking conversation and learning among our team members.
Donation Boxes for Local Charities
We believe in giving back to the communities that inspire us. As part of our Black History Month celebrations, donation boxes have been placed in each office to collect contributions for local charities supporting Black communities. It’s a meaningful way for us to show our support and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Virtual Quiz & Delicious Food
To add some fun to the month, we’re hosting a Black History Month quiz—an opportunity for friendly competition while learning more about the incredible contributions of Black people to our world. To make things even more enjoyable, delicious treats will be available for everyone to enjoy as we come together to celebrate.

While Black History Month is an important time for reflection, we recognise that Black history is not confined to just one month of the year. At Marlowe, we believe in celebrating the achievements and contributions of Black communities every day, fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and appreciation that extends beyond October.
