Background
A prestigious 19th-century coastal hotel, nestled along the South Devon shoreline, offers guests a blend of historic charm and modern comfort. Renowned for its grand architecture, exceptional hospitality, and seaside views, this destination serves both leisure travellers and professional guests with luxury rooms, spa and wellness facilities, and award-winning dining.
The Challenge
The site had historically relied on a chlorine dioxide system for secondary disinfection. However, the unit had reached the end of its service life, with system faults and persistent low-level Legionella results raising concerns. In addition, handling and storing chemical disinfectants on-site presented logistical and safety challenges, especially given the building’s layout and public access areas.
The Solution
A Genox Mini unit was proposed and installed to offer a safer and more sustainable solution. This compact generator produces the disinfectant on-site using just salt and water, eliminating the need to transport or store high-risk chemicals. The system initially treated the hot water network, but following early success, its application was expanded to include cold water systems through a simple reconfiguration.
Value Added
Since the Genox Mini installation, Legionella readings have significantly improved, helping the site meet compliance targets and reduce risk. The removal of hazardous chemical handling has also enhanced operational safety and sustainability. The client was pleased with both the performance and the ease of integration.
