Enhancing Water Safety in a Historic Luxury Hotel

written by

Background

A renowned luxury hotel in Scotland, originally a Victorian mansion and now boasting over 400 guest rooms, was facing persistent water hygiene concerns. Over decades, numerous extensions and refurbishments had created a labyrinth of legacy pipework. This made effective Legionella control a growing challenge, especially in stagnant and hard-to-reach areas.

Keen to protect guests and preserve service quality, the hotel’s management team sought a discreet, sustainable solution that would avoid disruption while enhancing long-term water safety.

The Challenge

Due to the building’s age and historic modifications, pipe layouts included inaccessible dead legs and low-flow areas prone to biofilm and microbial growth. Traditional flushing and chlorination efforts had become increasingly ineffective, while the use of chlorine dioxide raised concerns over chemical odours, drum storage, and health & safety within a luxury environment.

Our Solutions

The Genox water disinfection system was selected for its ability to improve water hygiene using a safer, more sustainable approach. Genox produces hypochlorous acid (HOCl) on site, using only salt, water, and electricity, eliminating the need for hazardous chemicals or plastic drums.
