Meet Jon Greaves
Jon Greaves is responsible for driving growth across the business uniting its diverse product range under one clear, integrated offer. His focus is on making it easier for clients and sales teams to understand Marlowe’s full capability.
Joining the water industry in 2005, Jon started “on the tools” before making his way up through account management, sales, people management, and technical roles. Moving from operational roles into a product and growth-focused role has given Jon the opportunity to think more strategically.
His approach
A key part of Jon’s strategy is positioning Marlowe as the number 1 provider of ‘influent to effluent’ services, managing the full water cycle in-house, from intake to discharge. This includes:
- Pre-treatment: reverse osmosis, ultra-filtration, and point-of-entry filtration for sectors like healthcare
- In-building services: sampling, temperature monitoring, and secondary disinfection
- End-of-cycle treatment: using FloCell and other technologies to treat water before it enters the sewer
Market outlook
From a technical perspective, Jon sees the water industry as largely unchanged over the past 20 years. “The last major regulatory update came in 2013 with ACOP L8 and HSG 274. Change is typically reactive, following incidents such as Legionella outbreaks,” he explains. “However, he sees significant shifts coming within the next two years.
“Health regulations are moving towards technology-led solutions, particularly remote monitoring and IoT sensors. These developments are likely to be written into ACOP and HSG, reducing the need for engineers to perform repetitive on-site tasks.
“On the chemical side of things, particularly in district energy, regulation will be another driver. From April 2026, for example, the Energy Act will make heat networks reportable to Ofgem, requiring operators to prove performance and efficiency. We expect this to boost demand for remote monitoring, water treatment, and supporting technology.”
Looking ahead
Jon sees major opportunities in effluent and wastewater engineering, driven by AMP8 – the latest government and utility investment cycle to modernise UK sewerage infrastructure. He explains: “Marlowe Environmental Services has the hire fleet and expertise to deliver large-scale projects, along with exclusive UK rights to FlowCell, a patented filtration technology that removes nutrients such as nitrites and phosphates more efficiently than any other solution on the market, and with low energy usage.”
Jon is also a strong advocate for skills development, focusing on attracting and retaining new talent from outside the sector to address the technical skills gap: “With many experienced engineers approaching retirement, structured training and career development are vital to protecting the industry’s knowledge base.
“We need to make the most of the technology that’s coming, but we also need people with the right skills to interpret it, act on it, and deliver the value clients are paying for.”
